Raymond Domenech is to blame for France's dismal World Cup, says defender William Gallas
William Gallas has branded France's miserable World Cup campaign a 'fiasco' and laid the blame of their humiliating first-phase exit firmly at the door of former manager Raymond Domenech.
Les Blues suffered a torrid campaign - one which was blighted by in-fighting and unrest from the outset.
'If it was a fiasco, then there are reasons for it,' Gallas said. 'And for me there is no need to draw a veil over why: they emanated from the coach. Speaking his mind: veteran defender William Gallas has hit out at Raymond Domenech
'The real problem is the coach. Okay I wasn't good, we weren't good. But the coach wasn't up to scratch either. I was appalled that we didn't play with two strikers.'
Domenech guided France to the final of the 2006 World Cup, only to lose to Italy on penalties. But the French were disappointing in Euro 2008, finishing bottom of their group and only booked their place in South Africa courtesy of Thierry Henry's infamous handball in their play-off clash with the Republic of Ireland.
And Gallas, who is destined to quit English football after failing to agree a new deal with Arsenal, insists his former boss has to take the blame.
'Even the training sessions weren't up to the level required. You can have the best players in the world in your team, but if you don't have the coach you need, then the results will not be achieved.'
Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka was sent home by Domenech after a dressing room bust-up with the pragmatic coach.
