'World's safest car' can cut road carnage says roads authority
THIS is the world's safest car, stacked full of high-tech features that will one day help cut the state's road toll.
The RTA's NSW Centre for Road Safety vehicle is crammed with the radars, screens, cameras and breath testing equipment designed to reduce one-off human errors that usually lead to death or serious injury.
It is driven by RTA principal analyst John Wall, who said drivers would soon be demanding these features.
"There's no other car like this in Australia - and I'd say it is probably one of the world's safest cars," he said.
The vehicle is set up to research and test new technologies, with the key feature being a new "pre-collision system" using radar.
"The pre-collision system identifies the potential for you to crash into another vehicle," Mr Wall said.
