There are places in the world - and still are many - where a simple sign of pregnancy should take risk of death. The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Save the Children has published its annual report, warning of the plight of sub-Saharan region, where lie eight of the ten worst countries for having children.

At the other extreme is Norway the best place for a happy motherhood. The NGO notes that it would suffice to give some training to groups of women in villages to reduce this drama by a third, as happened in Bangladesh. The ten countries where the infant mortality rate (one of the criteria followed by the NGO) is higher:
